Five Year Science Plan for the Tampa Bay Study
Project Leader: Kimberly Yates - April 15, 2003

Modeling: Water Quality
  • Circulation model

  • Boundary conditions for various loading sources (freshwater flow, ocean boundaries, point source discharges, diffuse runoff and loadings, atmospheric fall out and rainfall, groundwater). (Objectives 1b, 2a, 2b, and 2c).

  • Meteorological data – acquired by partners

  • Water column calibration data including salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, pH, and total inorganic carbon (Objective 1e.), light attenuation (Objectives 2f, 5b, and 5d.), inorganic suspended solids, particulate organic carbon (Objective 2f.), dissolved organic carbon, ammonium nitrogen, nitrate +nitrite nitrogen (Objective 2g.), particulate organic nitrogen, dissolved inorganic phosphorous, particulate inorganic phosphorous, dissolved organic phosphorous, particulate organic phosphorous, dissolved silica, particulate biogenic silica, chlorophyll a, abundance of major algal groups, dissolved calcium, and particulate calcium. Many of these parameters will be obtained from historical and current data sets of partners.

  • Benthic sediment calibration data including ammonium nitrogen, dissolved inorganic phosphorous, sulfide, total inorganic carbon (Objective 2d.), dissolved calcium, nitrate nitrogen, interstitial pH (Objective 2d.), dissolved silica, and dissolved oxygen (Objective 2d.), organic carbon, organic nitrogen, organic phosphorous, biogenic silica, inorganic phosphorous, calcium, and sulfide. Estimates of sediment accretion or burial are required – sediment dating (Objective 3a.). Many of these parameters will be obtained from historical and current data sets of partners.

  • Seagrass calibration data including time-varying biomass of shoots and roots (Objective 5d.), accumulation of epiphytic material on leaves (Objective 5c.), areal distribution of SAV beds (Objectives 5a.). Much historical and current seagrass data and information will be available from our partners.

  • Additional information will be acquired from the modeling consortium.
