Five Year Science Plan for the Tampa Bay Study
Project Leader: Kimberly Yates - April 15, 2003

Introduction: Project Management

Development of science direction and changes in science direction for the Tampa Bay Study will be determined by the project chief through participation in stakeholder meetings, and through close coordination with Tampa Bay Estuary Program managers and the Tampa Bay Estuary Program Technical Advisory Council (TAC). The TAC consists of approximately 200 local scientists; resource managers; key policy leaders; business, agricultural and special interest groups; and citizens from throughout the region.

The project chief will participate in bimonthly coordination meetings with Tampa Bay Estuary Program coordinators. Coordination and integration of project work will be achieved through monthly meetings with the project chief and task leaders. Informal meetings with the project chief, task leaders, project scientists and partners will be held a minimum of twice a year to report progress and next steps. Task leaders will have regular meetings and periodic workshops with all scientists participating in their respective tasks for coordination, planning, and to maintain integration among all tasks.

A formal science conference will be held annually, and will serve as a mechanism to bring together all scientists, partners, collaborators, and resource managers, a USGS internal project review committee (PRC) consisting of managers, and an external advisory council (EAC) consisting of a panel of national-level science experts in the field of estuarine research. The conference will serve as a progress review of the project for the PRC and EAC. The EAC will provide comments and recommendations on progress, direction, and technical project aspects based on their experience.
