Benthic Habitats, Model Urban and Environmental Impacts to Seagrass Distribution and Health, Quantify Urban and Environmental Impacts to Benthic Habitats

Five Year Science Plan for the Tampa Bay Study
Project Leader: Kimberly Yates - April 15, 2003

Task 5: Benthic Habitats - Quantify Urban and Environmental Impacts to Benthic Habitats

5c. Characterize seagrass epiphytes as related to seagrass bed distribution, productivity rates, and location within the bay to identify ecological indicators for seagrass health. Critical Science Gaps IVB and IVD.

5d. Measure the effects of light attenuation from resuspended sediments, groundwater flux, and nutrient exchange on benthic habitat productivity (seagrass, sand, mud, and macroalgal communities) by coupling monitoring and experimentation with water and sediment quality process studies. Critical Science Gaps IVA and IVB.
