Although the Tampa Bay Pilot Study addresses the state of the environment in fairly pristine areas as well as areas subject to anthropogenic alteration, this field trip focused on the "pristine" area in the Tampa Bay Aquatic Preserve and Buffer. THE FIRST STOP was on a small beach where mangroves are absent and part of a midden has been exposed by erosion. We discussed some of our activities offshore and along the coast including sea grass investigations, ground-water studies, geology, and archaeology.
THE SECOND STOP was inland where there were discussions of aquatic life in the numerous sinkholes and the natural and exotic plant life on land. There also was a demonstration of onshore resistivity techniques that was used in the Mariposa area and offshore up to nostril depth to connect with the continuous offshore resistivity measurements.
