This overview of Tampa Bay was acquired by satellite, Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM), in 2003. The raw image was obtained from the EROS Data Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and fully processed by the US Geological Survey in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The enhanced satellite image uses Bands 5,4,2 to depict vegetation as green-brown and exposed or developed surfaces as white-purple.
Colors are near natural: Water and swampy areas are blue black. Healthy plant growth is green. Agricultural fields and areas with low plant growth are pink or beige. Highways, parking lots and other black surfaces are purple. Beach sand, cleared land and cement are white or light blue.
